It is commonly known in Asheville that Dobra Tearoom is the best place for a cup of tea in North Carolina. What most people don’t know is that Dobra, which has 3 locations in North Carolina, is part of the family of Dobra teahouses based in Prague and located in Bohemian towns around the world.
Started by a band of young tea bootleggers in Czechoslovakia in the last years of communism there, Dobra, meaning “good”, started as a place where they could explore the illicit world through the tastes of tea across the globe.
The bar, tables and chairs for each teahouse are hand-hewn and installed by a Prague-based father/ son team of woodworkers who travel to each outpost, instilling a consistent feel and an authentic vibe.
The centralized tea buying and direct sourcing is what makes their teas amazing. They buy the best teas in large quantities; so can offer them at reasonable prices.
For example, I had one of the best cups of green tea I have ever tasted at the downtown Asheville location for $2. Their street chai was perfection.
They also offer an enticing list of gluten-free tea snacks baked locally. Quinoa Nutellla cookies, black sesame ginger tea cakes and Matcha shortbread! A place not to miss if you are a tea lover in North Carolina.
