Salty black licorice, birch smoke and vodka might sound disgusting to some, but to any Finn, or half-Finn, in my case, the combination tastes raw, wild and pure like the northern wind, forests and sea! This vodka is best on its own, served as cold as possible!
I made this for last week’s Nordic Mid Summer tea party (legendarily a wild solstice celebration brings summer blessings of abundance). I was surprised at how delicious it was!
To make it, just steep 1 Tablespoon Lapsang Souchong (or a blend of half Earl Grey and half Lapsang Souchong, like I did) and 1/4 cup of black licorice (about 8 pieces of Panda Licorice) in 1 cup of vodka (preferably a Finnish one like Koresenkorva) for 3-4 hours.
Serve chilled- the colder the better. I put mine in the freezer for an hour.
